Below is a poem by Aaliyah a fan of Kadafi:
My heart types down, one line
Happy birthday, it's october 9
that's not just a date, but a very special one
that's when a mother did get a son
a little baby boy,
came to earth to bring the joy
to shine through
and older he got he did it in music
flowed words well, meanings touched ones heart
since that very first start,
He and tha lawz,
yeah he was one of them stars,
he did his thing...
oh what he did bring,
verses flowing with such vibe
they sure was the one you heard
every word,
was like dang,
his heart sang...
did it's thang!
Yeah! his voice keeps bringing it loud and clear
In my CD Player yeah I got it there
I be bumpin' it loud, hearing him, the voice
he caught my heart among Pac and the law boys!
happy Birthday Yak, this is your day, to smile as any other,
cus this date, one sure smiled, your mother,
Oh God, he cried happy tears for sure...
earth had opened up it's door,
for you, and you was that angel among
an angel so strong, october, nine...
a date when you came to shine!
Interview with Donny Rizzo and Mixtape tracklisting!
Can you introduce yourself and tell us about the
job you done on the mixtape
I go by the name of Donny Rizzo, the One Man
Extravaganza. I compiled, recorded,
produced, and
mixed the Yaki Kadafi Mixxtape "Son Rize"
Who's idea was it to create the mixtape?
This project was brought about really by the demands
of the fans. But has evolved into much more. It has
become a celebration of Yak's family and ancestors,
with emphasis on trying to enlighten some of todays
youth about the histroy of the revolution that the
family has been involved in.
What's the task been like to try get material?
On the real, not as hectic as it could have been. We
got stuff from everywhere though...videotapes,
microcasettes, old tapes found in basements. I flew
to Jersey and recored new material from Fatal. Also,
my man Dante hooked me up with some joints
and of course Stephen Dunn!
Can you tell us about the type of stuff you found,
like what type of songs, who is on them?
The first tapes we found were from "Thorohead" days.
Thoroheads were EDi, KAstro, and Yak. None of it is
super quality, but it works. 4 bangin-ass joints though.
The microcasettes were of Fatal and Yak, who went by
the Pac-givin name of "Fatal N Felony". They recorded
it in like 94 in Yaaz house in Jerz the videotapes were
from the days when the "one nation" project was
being recorded. The camera man was actually inside
the vocal booth when Yaki and Napolean were
recording verses for "Lets Fight" I dont think anybody
has heard these. We removed Napolean, and Fatal
recorded a new verse instead
Did you get any material with Tupac on the songs?
No doubt! Pac was everywhere. Though Pac is on almost
every song on the mixtape, doing the hook or just sound
bytes, we didnt use any of his 'unreleased or unheard' songs
for this project execpt... we found an OG version of "Letter
to my Unborn" never released... We did a concept remix
with Pac doing a verse, and then I do the second verse
where Im reading a letter from Yaki to his kids, since
I've been raising them for the last three years
What was it like working with Fatal?
Good, real chill. The man works fast like me. He only had
to hear the tracks 2 or 3 times, then he just got up and spit.
The best was Who Believes, he ripped through 16 bars on
the first take! It took two trips to get done, but BIGG UPS
to FATAL VELI the MENACE! Thats whats up. Fatal N Felony
definatly would have been a hot album
Is there enough material for a second mixtape?
when do you think the first will be ready to be sold?
Vol 2 is def a possibility. I really had like 60 songs with
the great Kadafi on them. We are taking pre-orders
right now, and will be shipping by the first of july
Has anyone else contributed to the mixtape?
Also have people heard it?
Outlawz have tribute song called "Never can say Goodbye".
My man Ays in Atl hooked me up with OG material probably
slated for the next tape. Everyone that has heard it loves it.
The entire Shakur family, the Lawz, many of the original
Panther 21 have givin their support as well as Dr. Mutulu
Shakur and Yaks father Sekou Odinga, both of whom are
still political prisioners. And so many more. The mixtape
creates a most positive vibe and energy that everyone
seems to feel.
Anything else you wanna say or speak on?
Man, its so much going on. This whole project has basically
been done in two months and its been a whirlwind. On
behalf of myself, Miss Yaasmyn, the little girls, and
everyone else, we just wanna let everyone know that the
love an appreciation that all the fans have shown has only
motivated this project to a higher level than
we ever expected.
